9.11 Circle Wind Memorial Concert Features Gregory Singer's Manhattan Symphonie and Acclaimed Japanese Choirs
New York, NY - August 2, 2010 ------- The third annual 9.11 Circle Wind Memorial Concert will be held at the New York Society for Ethical Culture Concert Hall, 2 West 64th Street at Central Park West, on Saturday, September 11th, 2010 at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $10.
The concert features Gregory Singer's Manhatattan Symphonie performing Dvoraks's "New World" Symphony and noted choral groups Cocolo Japanese Gospel Choir, Shonan Gospel Choir and the Men's Glee Club of New York. Also, Ms. Kaoriko Kuge, a popular announcer of Fuji Television, will host the concert this year.
A highlight will be the performance of the song "Mother's Day," sung jointly by the Cocolo Gospel Choir and the Men's Glee Club of New York. "Mother's Day" lyrics were written by Patrick L. Cartier, father of 9.11 victim James Cartier, in recognition of his wife's grief for their fallen son on Mother's Day. Patrick posted the lyrics to a website dedicated to his son, where they were read by Mr. Kazusada Sumiyama, who also lost a son at the World Trade Center. Mr. Sumiyama composed a song featuring Mr. Cartier's lyrics. It will be performed in a mixed chorus for the first time during this year's Circle Wind event, with memebers of both families expected to be in attendance.
Gregory Singer's Manahattan Symphonie was founded in 2005 by dynamic maestro Gregory Singer, and made its Carnegie Hall debut the same year. The orchestra is comprised of young virtuoso musicians eager to make their mark as well as seasoned veterans of the three Lincoln Center orchestras, including the Metropholitan Opera Orchestra. In 2009 the orchestra performed a series of sold-out concerts in China, in celebration of 30 years of relations between the US and China.
The Cocolo Japanese Gospel Choir (New York) and Shonan Gospel Choir (Shonan, Japan) are uniquely focused on Gospel music, including Spirituals and contemporary Gospel songs. The Cocolo Choir has performed at the Apollo Theatre and Central Park SummerStage. The Shonan Choir is among the leading Gospel groups in Japan and has played a major roled in the surging popularity of Gospel music there. The Men's Glee Club of New York is only a Japanese male choir in New York comprised of Japanese businessmen who love to sing. Individual members have performed at Carnegie Hall and sung the US national anthem during the ceremony at Yankee Stadium.
The Circle Wind Memorial Concert was conceived to commemorate those who lost their lives on 9.11, including victims from over 90 countries and 24 victims from Japan. The event has attracted leading artists and is attended by a number of victims' family members. "September 11th is a special day for those who live in New York," said Mr. Masaki (Mike) Shirota, one of the founders of the Concert. "Circle Wind is a concert where we can commemorate that day as we experience and share beautiful, healing music."
